British boxer Tyson Fury returned to the ring after a brief and highly publicised retirement, knocking out the massive Cameroonian Francis Ngannou in round nine of their rematch in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh.
The first eight rounds were competitive and packed with heavy exchanges that forced Fury to touch the canvas twice before rising with iron determination. In round nine, Fury found the right opening after a body attack and followed up with a precise right hand that sent Ngannou to the floor with no way back.
Fury roared at the crowd: 'I told you I would not be beaten. The Gypsy King is back!' to chants from an audience of 40 different nationalities who filled the enormous Saudi arena in a professional atmosphere rivalling the best boxing nights in Las Vegas.
Ngannou acknowledged his opponent's greatness, saying: 'Fury is an exceptional fighter. He knocked me down twice and I got up. The third time my body didn't let me. Full respect to the world champion.' He also praised the Saudi organisation, calling it the finest he had experienced.
The question now arises: will Fury face Anthony Joshua in the long-awaited heavyweight unification bout that boxing fans have craved for years? Negotiations are open and could produce a showdown before the end of 2026, according to sources.
